5 Ways to Plan Ahead for Next Year’s Pool Installation

Your family may have spent last summer fighting for space at the public pool, but you’ve promised them that next year will be different. Next year you’ll have a pool of your own! While it seems like the kids have just started school, the next pool season will be here before you know it. Believe it or not, there are a few things you can do through the off-season to prepare for the pool you’ll be getting next year. Do these five things to plan ahead for next year’s pool installation.

Research

Do you already have your swimming pool design in mind? If not, now’s the perfect time to dive in. Get your feet wet by researching and learning about all the different types of pools. The biggest question is whether you should choose an inground or above-ground pool.

If you choose an inground pool, what type of material is going to be the best choice for your family: gunite, vinyl-lined, or fiberglass? There are pros to all three types, so there’s no right or wrong choice. It’s just which type fits your needs best. Here are a few things to read to jumpstart your research: the advantages of vinyl pools; inground pool options; and choosing the perfect shape for your swimming pool.

Above-ground pools are a more budget-friendly option but they can make your backyard just as awesome. They come in a variety of materials and last up to 15-20 years. Of course, the best models last much longer. In fact, some of our pools come with a 25-year warranty! Interested in an above-ground pool? Read these articles to learn more about each type of above-ground pool; how much above-ground pools cost; and 3 great reasons to get an above-ground pool.

Plan Your Budget

Decide what features are most important to you and set the budget for your pool installation. There’s more to think about than just how big a pool you can afford. For instance, is your yard well-suited for a pool? These days nearly any yard can be made to accommodate a pool, but special circumstances will impact your budget. For instance, is your yard sloped? Is access to the site restricted? Those issues won’t keep you from owning a pool, but they’ll definitely need to be factored into your budget.

Pick a Builder

Everyone knows how important it is to find the best contractor for the job when it comes to your home. It’s the same with your pool!  But how can you know you’re picking a great pool company? Make sure the company you choose can check these four boxes:

  • Great Customer Reviews and Testimonials — Other customers’ experiences will tell you how you can expect to be treated
  • Outstanding Customer Service — When you buy a pool from a great company, it’s not a one-time transaction. They will be there when you have questions about maintenance, need water care products, and want to add on accessories. Plus, they’re responsible for bringing your dream to life and sticking to your budget. So, pick a pool company that not only offers customer loyalty perks, but one that also listens closely, communicates well, and helps you create an awesome pool design!
  • Amazing Photos — Ask the pool company to see their previous builds or check out their online gallery. You’ll get a good idea about the quality and style of work they do. Plus, a great gallery will inspire you about the possibilities in your own backyard oasis!
  • Certifications and Associations — Excellent pool companies are part of larger organizations. At the very least, they should be a member of the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (formerly known as the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals). Plus, they’ll have the relevant licenses and certifications. An outstanding pool company may even have some design awards under their belt.

Design Your Pool

After all your research about pools, it’s time to design the ideal pool for you. At this point, you might know what shape pool you want and how you want the hardscaping to look, but your pool builder can pull it all together and make sure any issues (like a slope in your yard) are planned for.
