How to Have a Fall Festival in Your Backyard Pool

Just because fall weather in East Texas is still in the 80s and 90s, we know that doesn’t mean you don’t want to sip on a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy a fall festival! That said, picking pumpkins is more fun when you don’t break a sweat carrying them back to the car. If you’re lucky enough to own a pool, especially if it’s a heated pool, you get to enjoy swim season even after the calendar says summer is over. So, why not combine the last of pool season with fall in one awesome fall festival in your own backyard? Here are a few tips to make it incredible!

Create a Festive Menu

What are your favorite foods when you attend a fall festival? Do you always stop at the booth selling corn on the cob, turkey legs, or Walking Frito Pie? Or maybe all your fall favorites are sweets, like caramel apples, kettle corn, or smores! Anything goes when you’re planning your backyard fall festival. 

Don’t forget to include fall-themed beverages. Brew up a batch of the requisite pumpkin spice lattes. Serve apple cider (it’s good on ice, too!). And if the party goes into the evening, a hot chocolate bar will be a guaranteed hit. 

Autumn-Themed Decorations Set the Mood

Add some pumpkins and potted mums to your pool patio. Hang streamers in the red, gold, and orange shades of fall foliage. Use sunflowers, corn stalks, leaves, and mums to decorate the rest of your space. Add cozy, fall-themed pillows and throw blankets to your furniture. Then open your pool for one of the last swims of the season.

Bring out the corn hole board. Set up a pumpkin-painting and/or carving station. Plus, fill a big tub with water for bobbing for apples. When the sun starts to fall and everyone has had enough swimming, move to hay bales or lawn chairs around a fire pit and toast marshmallows. Also, if you’ve got one, have your hot tub open and ready. Your guests can warm up if the air is chilly after swimming or watch the bonfire from the best seat in the house!
